GLNG: Woodside eyes major increase of North American LNG purchases

Australia’s Woodside Energy is shifting its focus to North America for procurement of LNG supplies amid a challenging environment for construction of new LNG projects in the domestic market, Japan’s Nikkei Asia reported on March 26.

In an interview with the Japanese publication, Woodside CEO Meg O’Neill expressed the company’s interest in increasing its trading portfolio through the procurement of additional LNG supplies from the US and western Canada.

Already, the Australian energy company is buying LNG from Cheniere Energy’s LNG export terminal in Corpus Christi, Texas. Under the terms of the 20-year deal, Woodside imports 0.85mn tonnes per year (tpy) from the plant.
