Energo: Poland’s Duda says US investor should build second Polish nuclear power plant

A US investor should build Poland’s second nuclear power plant (NPP), President Andrzej Duda told Bloomberg on March 12.

Duda and Prime Minister Donald Tusk were in the US earlier this week to commemorate Poland’s 25 years in Nato and also discuss war in Ukraine as well as issues of bilateral cooperation such as energy.

Poland’s energy mix remains dominated by coal although wind and solar power are growing in importance, having reduced coal’s share in electricity generation to 63% in 2022 from 73% the preceding year.

US companies Westinghouse and Bechtel will build Poland’s first nuclear power plant on the Baltic coast, even though the details on the project’s financing are not yet clear.
